Sell on credit and record payments
Let a customer pay part now and the rest later, and record each later payment.
Updated 30 September 2026
This guide shows you how to sell when the customer pays part now and the rest later. It also shows you how to record the later payments.
Sell on credit
- Add the items to the cart and tap Take payment. See Make a sale.
- Pick the payment method.
- In Amount paid, type what the customer pays today. Type 0 if they pay nothing now.
- A box appears: "The customer will owe" and the balance. Tick it to record the balance as credit.
- Type the Customer name and Customer phone. You need the phone to follow up.
- Tap Save sale on credit.
The receipt shows what was paid and the Amount due. The sale also shows on the Credit page until it is paid.
Tip: Customers often pay part by cash and part by transfer. Tap Split with another method to record each part.
Record a later payment
You need the Record payments permission. Owners can always do this.
- Open the sale. You can find it on the Credit page, or search for it on the Sales page.
- Tap Record payment.
- Pick the Method: Transfer, POS or Cash.
- Check the Amount. It starts at the full amount owed. Change it for a part payment. It cannot be more than what is owed.
- Paid on: leave it as it is if the customer pays now. If they paid earlier, pick the date and time they paid.
- Add a Note if it helps, for example "Bank alert seen".
- Tap Record payment.
The sale page updates at once. The payment shows under Payments, with the method and who recorded it.
Payment status
Each sale shows one of these:
- Paid: nothing is owed.
- Part paid: some money is still owed.
- Unpaid: nothing has been paid yet.
- Overdue: money is still owed after the number of days the owner set.
When the last payment comes in, the sale shows Amount due (settled) and leaves the Credit page.
Tip: Print the receipt again after a payment to give the customer an updated copy.
To see everyone who owes you, see Follow up money owed.
